The Best Smartphone 2012 Android, iPhone, Blackberry | The Best Smartphone 2012. The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas always gives consumers a solid preview of what’s in store for the upcoming year in terms of mobile technology. Based on what was seen this past January, 2012 is shaping up to be a stellar year for smartphones. Here are a few of the more highly-anticipated smartphones on the way in the near future.

Motorola Droid 4

Though touchscreen-based phones are all the rage, there are still plenty of people who prefer cell phones with physical keyboards. The Motorola Droid 4 will ship with Android 2.3.4, with an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the way later in the year. It sports a 1.2 GHz dual-core CPU, 16 GB of storage and a 4.0” HD display.

Samsung Galaxy Note
The Galaxy Note falls somewhere between a smartphone and a tablet, featuring a 1280 x 800 pixel, 5.3” display. It runs on AT&T’s 4G LTE network, which means it’ll support blistering speeds that few other smartphones offer. With a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU and an 8 MP camera, it’ll ship with Android 2.3.6 and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

HTC Radar 4G
Available for T-mobile customers, the Radar 4G is a Windows Phone OS 7.5 model that offers blazing download speeds on T-mobile’s advanced network. With a 1.0 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, 512 MB RAM, a 5.0 MP primary camera and a 3.8” screen, it’s a powerful device that offers a superb Windows Phone experience on the latest hardware.

Blackberry London
In the interests of fairness, a RIM device has to be included on our list. Blackberry has seen its market share slide in recent years, but it’s still a force to be reckoned with. The upcoming QNX-based Blackberry London could be RIM’s saving grace, and it will be arriving mid-2012 at the earliest. It boasts a 3.7” touchscreen, the latest BB 10 OS, a 1.5 GHz CPU and 16 GB of built-in storage.

iPhone 5
True to form, Apple is remaining quiet on when the latest iPhone will debut. The upcoming iPhone 5 will most likely sport an A6 CPU, more RAM, enhanced NFC capabilities and even better graphics processing power. Rumored to be released either alongside the iPad 3 or possibly as late as Fall 2012, it should continue Apple’s winning streak in the mobile sphere.

The Final Word
Ultimately, 2012 is shaping up to be the most competitive year yet for smartphones. Blackberry is still hanging tough, Android continues to grow ever more popular and Windows Phone 7 is launching an all-out effort to attract users. Whatever happens, expect some real fireworks once production models begin hitting the shelves.
