Some of the new features of the new iPad tablet is a screen with a 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution. The New iPad will be available starting with March 16, 2012, with a panel who’s color saturation will be 44% bigger than the iPad 2.

The New iPad will integrate a new SoC entitled A5X quad core, a major change compared to the dual core on the iPad 2. The new tablet will also support voice to text from U.S. English, U.K. English, Japan, German and French.

On the communications side, The New iPad will be compatible with 4G LTE technology with a maximum transfer rate of 21 Mbps HSPA+, 42 Mbps DC-HSDPA and 73 Mbps LTE. It will also integrate the mobile hotspot feature if the mobile operator allows it.

The back camera will have 5 MP photo camera, it can record Full HD videos and will have a BSI sensor. It will have a 10 hours battery autonomy and about 9 hours if you plan on taking advantage of the 4G technology.

The thickness of the New iPad is 9,4 mm and weight 635 grams.

The prices are the same as of the iPad 2: 499, 599, 699 for the WiFI versions,$629, $729, $829 for the 4G versions.

The New iPad will be available in black and white colors.

“In many ways the iPad is reinventing portable computing, and it’s outstripping the wildest of predictions,” Cook told audience-goers, adding that Apple sold 172 million post-PC devices in 2011 alone.

Ever since the unveiling of the iPad 2 last March, rumors have been swirling everywhere as to what the third-generation of the iOS-based tablet would look like. One of the most recent rumors was that the iPad 3 would actually be referred to as the iPad HD.

Yet, it looks like Apple is actually only going to refer to the third-generation as simply “the new iPad” for the time being.

Also as expected, Apple is finally bringing its Retina Display technology (as seen on the iPhone 4 and 4S) to the 9.7 inch screen of the iPad. That includes a 2048 x 1536 resolution with 3.1 million pixels.

Additional hot specs include the A5X quad-core processor, touted as twice as fast and four times better performance than Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chip.

Apple developers also stepped up the camera features and abilities considerably from the iPad 2. For starters, the rear camera is now an iSight camera with 5-megapixel, illuminated sensor with a 5-element lens, face detection and IR filter. Another touch of HD on this tablet is the addition of 1080p HD video recording.

Bridging the spec gaps between the iPhone 4S and this iPad, hints of Siri can be found with voice recognition. Initially, it will support U.S., British and Australian English as well as French, German and Japanese.

All of this taken together could presumably drain the battery life of the iPad considerably. Yet the 9.4mm-thin device will still last up to 10 hours — and even nine hours when using 4G.

Besides the improved performance specs, one of the features that might be most pertinent to business customers would be the upgrade to 4G LTE support with a max of 72Mbps and HSPA+ for up to 21Mbps.

So far, only Verizon, AT&T, Rogers, Bell and Telus have been announced as the designated LTE providers on this product. However, the Verizon and AT&T versions of the iPad are said to be different.

At least the iPad can now serve as a personal hotspot (if the carrier supports it) for up to five devices.

Unfortunately, the pricing scales haven’t changed at all, starting again at $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi edition. But considering how well past iPad models have already sold with lesser specs than these, it’s not hard to see why Apple wouldn’t budge.

But for the budget-conscious crowd, Apple is continuing to sell the iPad 2, now with prices reduced by $100. Therefore, the iPad 2 will now start at $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi edition.

Set to roll out in black and white options again, this iPad will be getting this biggest initial global roll-out ever with 10 countries on the release roster next Friday. Those markets consist of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and Switzerland.

Given all of the hype surrounding new Apple products, there are inevitably high sales expectations for the newest iPad. A recent survey from independent mobile advertising network InMobi found that nearly one-third of mobile users will buy the new iPad.

We’ll see just how much the iPad 3 resonates with consumers after it is released. It was reported on Tuesday that we could see the third-generation iPad show up in stores as soon as Friday, March 16, which was confirmed by Cook.

While not officially confirming the product's launch, the invitations sent to journalists read: "We have something you really have to see. And touch." The event itself will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10 a.m.

The next iPad -- which the New York Times has noted will not necessarily be called the iPad 3 -- is expected to upgrade the iPad 2 internally, rather than radically changing its design; in October, Apple offered a similar update to its iPhone, boosting the power of its signature smartphone's processor and antenna and adding voice assistant Siri without significantly transforming the case or body of the phone.

What will change? Apple has been typically tight-lipped in the run-up to its iPad unveiling. Based on rumors and supposed leaks from the supply chain, however, the biggest change is expected to be the iPad's screen. The iPad 3 could feature a Retina display, which Apple defines as a "pixel density is so high your eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels." The iPhone and iPod Touch have Retina displays, and the iPad is expected to join those two with this upgrade, doubling the resolution and quadrupling the amount of pixels on the iPad from 1,024x768 to 2,048x1,536. (The Apple blog MacRumors claims to have a prototype of an iPad 3 display, which they confirmed was indeed 2048x1536).

The Wall Street Journal also reported that the next iPad is set to be compatible with the faster 4G networks of AT&T and Verizon, which would mark Apple's first 4G device; a quad-core processor, Siri and improved camera are also rumored add-ons. The iPad 3 is also rumored to be receiving a larger battery, which, in addition to the Retina display, could bump up width of the iPad 3 about one or two millimeters. 

The iPad range, which first launched in 2010, has sold more than 50 million units worldwide. Last year, sales of the iPad 2 began in the US nine days after the launch announcement - which also took place in March.

Apple's first two versions of the iPad transformed the market for tablet computers and made it one of the fastest-growing sectors of the computer industry.

The firm has dropped an Apple tablet from the edge of space and, incredibly, it survived.

As a YouTube video shows, G-Form attached the iPad and case to a weather balloon which carried it 100,000ft up.

The entire journey was captured on a video attached to the balloon.

In some amazing scenes the iPad can be seen high above the earth in space.

But once the altitude pressure causes the balloon to burst. the iPad comes crashing back down to earth.

Using locator devices to find their iPad, the team discover it to be in great condition and in full working order.

Despite their confidence in the video, some critics believe that the video could be a fake.

According to the Huffington Post, G-Form says on its website: 'We're happy that some of our customers' electronics have survived their testing of our Extreme products, but we don't encourage or recommend intentionally dangerous stunts.'
