AC Milan Withholds Ibra and Silva

Manchester City's plans to sign in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva of AC Milan to Etihad Stadium seem to have hit a wall. Though already possessing many star players, City coach Roberto Mancini claims he is still unsatisfied of the teams composition. This explains his intentions of bringing in Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to other clubs, City included. Allegri who failed to defend the club's "Scudetto" title in the Italian League Series A this season, does not wish to come up shorthanded of star players for the competition next season.

"Ziatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago will stay in Milan. AC Milan and its president wish to maintain the club's position at the highest level possible. Thiago is still young and Ibrahimovic has still has much to contribute. They are reliable champions in Milan's future. Currently, the club is only seeking replacements for players who have left," said Allegri.

Separately, young Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy also believes that Ibrahimovic will stay at the Giuseeppe Meazza, San Siro. He highly doubts that the Swede will settle leaving Milan for a contract offer of 300 thousand pounds per week. "His desire is always about winning, I think he will continue being with us at the San Siro." said El Sharrawy.

In the 2011-2012 season, Milan ended the competition in Series A empty handed. Allegri's failed to overpower Juventus, which won the 'Scudetto' and Napoli, the Coppa Italia tittle. Not just that, Milan also failed to make its mark  in the European Champions League after losing to Barcelona in the quarterfinals.

He contributed five goals in Barcelona's 7-1 victory over Leverkusen in the Camp Nou, as well as win tickets to the quarter-finals. Contribution that reinforces the 24-year-old player as the best of all time. "I do not remember the last time I scored five goals.

Messi missed Barcelona's last league match due to suspension and, according to team-mate Cesc Fabregas, was "eager to do something special." He didn't disappoint.

  

After racing on to a through ball in the 25th minute, Messi beat a dangerous Leverkusen offside trap and, after a flash of a look to see where the defence were (trailing hopelessly behind him), scooped an impudent lob over the goalkeeper to open his night's scoring.

Since his goal in the 2009 final, Messi has scored 33 goals in 30 Champions League starts. It had been a year since he last scored at the Nou Camp in the competition (3-1 v Arsenal, 8 March 2011).

Messi had seven shots against Leverkusen, six of them on target.

Messi scored his 49th Champions League goal at the age of 24 years, eight months & 13 days old. When reaching the same target, Raul was aged 27 years, four months and 27 days - while Van Nistelrooy and Henry were aged 30 and 31 respectively.
